東日本大震災と東京電力福島第一原発事故の後、福島県に住む私たちは、さまざまな経験をしました。その中には、福島に対するいわれのない偏見・差別や、住民同士の分断など、たいへん心が痛む経験も少なくありませんでした。

　そうした経験を持つ福島だからこそ、互いの違いを認めあい、一人ひとりが自分らしく暮らせる地域にしたい。多様な背景を持つ人びとの力によって福島を強く、しなやかにし、継続的に発展していく地域にしたい。私たちはそう強く願い、福島においてダイバーシティ(多様性)の重要性を考え、議論を深めていくための団体を立ち上げました。福島を多様性を尊重する先進県にし、その重要性を全国へ発信していくこと。それが私たち「ダイバーシティふくしま」の目標です。

In recent years, the term “diversity” (tayousei) has come to be used in many settings in Japan. In companies it is considered a source of organizational strength to employ diverse people with various backgrounds.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake and TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Incident, those of us living in Fukushima Prefecture endured a variety of experiences. Among these, few were spared the heartache of prejudice and discrimination against Fukushima, as well as divisions among its residents.

In light of these experiences and in recognition of our various differences we wish to make this a place where each person can live in their own way. Through the power of human diversity we aim for Fukushima to become a region continuously evolving, with strength and flexibility.  In order to further these discussions, with the significace of diversity firmily in mind, we established this organiztion. We will broadcast to the entire nation the importance of making Fukushima an advanced prefecture that respects diversity. This is the goal of "Diversity Fukushima".
